Intermittent Catheter Care

This course is designed around the urinary tract in relation to clean intermittent catheterisation. It details the symptoms and causes of Urinary Tract Infections. Goes over how to perform the procedure as a healthcare worker including the risks involved. This is an important course for anyone working with catheters.

Some of the competencies achieved during class are:
  • Having a basic knowledge of bladder anatomy and physiology as it relates to an intermittent urinary catheter 
  • Recognising Urinary Tract Infections (UTI) symptoms, causes and following treatment plans 
  • Developing knowledge of residual urine levels pre and post-void 
  • Acquiring practical knowledge of how to perform intermittent catheterisation 
  • Understanding the risks associated with this procedure and devices 
  • Understanding health in relation to intermittent catheter care
  • Standard practice of infection prevention and control
