Manual Handling
This course is offered as either a Full Day (7hr) or Half Day refresh (3hr). It covers safety in terms of transferring and mobility with use of hoists and other aids whilst following the regulations of manual handling.
Some of the competencies achieved during class are:
- Gaining a theoretical knowledge and practical skills; to recognise the risks of unsafe practices involved in manual handling as required by the Manual Handling Regulations.
- Developing a recognition of the risks associated with unsafe practices involved in manual handling
- Complying with practices as required by the Manual Handling Regulations
- Understand support workers scope of practice
- Understanding the role and importance of documentation and record-keeping
There
are a range of practicals for this session:
- Use of the slide sheet
- Turning a person in bed
- Transfer with a hoist
- Transfer without a hoist
- One person transfer out of a chair
- Two person transfer out of a chair
- One person transfer out of a simulated care
- Use of a wheelchair
Length of course: 3hr Refresher or 7hr Full Day
